Education:
- Master of Education, Graceland University
Professional Experience:
- How long in ACD?: Since September 2003.
- What do you like about the work you do?: I really enjoy the people I work with day in and day out. I’ve been in Academic and Career Development (ACD) since 2003, and the reason I have stayed here is the people. I have the utmost respect for the outstanding academic support staff and what they provide to our students. I am proud to be associated with such a talented group of dedicated advisors, career consultants, and the leadership team in ACD and University College.
- Past jobs/experiences: I was an assistant director for Educational Talent Search, a TRIO-funded (U.S. Department of Education) outreach program for first-generation students in middle/high school in south-central Iowa and north-central Missouri; before that, I taught fifth grade.
Advice to students: Don’t be afraid to ask for help, either from your professors, academic advisors, or friends who want the best for you.
If you could be any major in your cluster, what would it be? Why?: Philanthropic studies. This is a fairly recent major, and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy is the world’s first school of its kind. I would be thrilled to be one of the first graduates from this program, in part, due to the nonprofit sector. I enjoy giving back to my local community in different ways. Change begins at home and works out from there.
