Not enrolled for only one consecutive semester
In good academic standing
If you left in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative IU grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and have only missed one fall or one spring semester, you may return and register for classes during open registration periods by:
- Requesting a term activation through the Office of the Registrar at (317) 274-1519 (only during open registration). You will not be able to register without term activation.
- Meeting with your student success advisor to discuss your classes and to answer any questions.
Probationary status
If you left with less than a minimum cumulative IU GPA of 2.0 and have only missed one fall or spring semester, you may return and register for classes during open registration periods by:
- Requesting a term activation through the Office of the Registrar at (317) 274-1519 (only during open registration). You will not be able to register without term activation.
- Scheduling a required appointment with your student success advisor to discuss your probation terms, register for classes, and adjust your hold.
You will have one semester (not including summers) to increase your cumulative GPA to a 2.0 or higher.
Dismissal status
If you left due to an academic dismissal hold, you cannot enroll for a minimum of one fall or spring semester and must apply for reinstatement. Please visit reinstatement procedures for details.
Not enrolled for more than one consecutive semester
If you left in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative IU GPA of 2.0 and have not enrolled for a fall and spring semesters (a full calendar year), you may return and register for classes during open registration periods by:
- Completing the returning student application by the posted deadlines.
The IU Indianapolis Office of Admissions will notify you when you're eligible to meet with your student success advisor to discuss your classes and to answer any questions.
Probationary status
If you left with less than a minimum cumulative IU GPA of 2.0 and have not enrolled for a full calendar year, you may be eligible to return and to register for classes during open registration periods by:
- Completing a returning student application by the posted deadlines. Your record will be reviewed, and if eligible, the IU Indianapolis Office of Admissions will notify you when you are qualified to schedule an appointment (no drop-in advising) with your student success advisor to discuss your classes, answer any questions, and adjust your hold.
You will have one semester (not including summers) to increase your cumulative GPA to a 2.0 or higher.
