The Strong Interest Inventory is a self-assessment instrument that can be used to help you discover your interests. This information can be used to assist with educational and career decisions. The questionnaire asks about your preferences in regard to hobbies, occupations, personal characteristics, leisure activities, occupational activities, school subjects, and types of people. It takes 35–40 minutes to complete. A fee of $21 must be paid prior to taking the inventory.
Your results come in the form of a report, which you will discuss with a career consultant. Even though the report includes a list of occupations that might be suitable for you based on your answers, they may or may not be the best fit. You should always thoroughly explore any occupation you are considering.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a self-inventory designed to identify a person's personality type, strengths, and preferences. Developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs, the MBTI is based on their work with Carl Jung's theory of personality types. By developing an indicator that could be used to help people understand individual differences, Myers and Briggs believed that they could help people select occupations that were best suited to their personality types.
The goal of the MBTI is to help you further explore and understand your own personality, including likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, possible career preferences, and compatibility with others. No one personality type is best or better than any other one. The goal is simply to help you learn more about yourself. Once you pay the $17 fee, you can complete the MBTI online. In a follow-up appointment, you will discuss the results with a career consultant.
